For our final night in Adelaide, we wanted to splurge and have a great night in one of the best hotels in the city. It was quite an easy decision. Sofitel Adelaide was new at that time, opening only in late 2021. It was also apparently the first internationally recognised five-star hotel to be built in Adelaide in the past 30 years! Naturally, we had to book a stay at this hotel. As with all our stays during this trip, we pampered ourselves and booked a night’s stay in the Prestige Suite. Come find out how our stay went!

TL:DR

  • Exceptionally luxurious

  • Gorgeous suite

  • Top-notch food

  • Stunningly beautiful facilities

Service:

Service at Sofitel Adelaide was top-notch. Every staff member was professional and greeted us with a broad smile whenever we entered the hotel. While at Club Millésime, the service was professional and courteous. We were definitely in a five-star hotel. We had nothing but praise for the entire team at Sofitel Adelaide, as we were not left wanting, and our stay was perfect. From the time we checked in till the morning when we checked out the next day, everything was smooth and efficient.

Hotel Facilities:

Sofitel Adelaide - Love the design of the swimming pool
Sofitel Adelaide - Love the design of the swimming pool

Sofitel Adelaide has an indoor swimming pool that is perfect for swimming all year round. During our stay, it was winter, and I could not imagine swimming outdoors in such weather. At Sofitel Adelaide, no such issue existed. The temperature was kept at a very inviting degree that made you want to jump into the pool. The swimming pool also happened to be a work of beauty. We loved the chandeliers hanging from above, while the floor-to-ceiling windows meant there was lots of natural light shining in. Lounge chairs are also available, so you could grab a book and relax while your family has fun in the pool.

The gym is just one storey above the swimming pool, and you can get a proper workout in this gym. It appeared spacious enough, and you can do a cardio workout on the treadmills before using the dumbbells to work out those biceps.

Club Millésime:

As part of the perks of staying in the Prestige Suite, guests enjoy the added hospitality in the private lounge at Club Millésime. Located on level 10, it has three meal services for club guests to enjoy. Breakfast is served in the lounge between 7 am and 10 am daily, while Le Goûter, also known as “afternoon snack”, is served from 2 pm to 4 pm. In the evening, L’Apéro, which is translated as a pre-dinner social gathering where people enjoy drinks and light snacks, is served from 5 pm to 7 pm.

During our stay at Sofitel Adelaide, we enjoyed Le Goûter and L’Apéro. After settling down and dropping our luggage in the suite, we went to the club lounge for food. We were served with a traditional afternoon tea stand, with savouries and sweets placed elegantly on the stand. Although it was nothing too fanciful, it did its job and kept us well fed. At least until L’Apéro time.

As promised, we were back at Club Millésime around 6 pm for a light meal before heading for dinner with our friends. The food options were a lot more compared to the afternoon snack, but of course, L’Apéro is not meant to replace a meal. The usual food options included cold cuts, smoked fish, and cheese, while salad was another option. There were some fresh-cut fruits, which can also act as a palate cleanser. We were also served with two hot dishes made to order, which consisted of a unique rolled-up deep-fried dumpling and a “deconstructed” taco. Either we were too hungry, craving for some hot food, or it was delicious, but we cleared those almost immediately. For those needing a drink, you can always help yourself to some beverages in the fridge.

For breakfast service, we chose to have it at the hotel’s main restaurant, Garçon Bleu. However, I managed to head to the lounge briefly to check out what was on offer. Of course, the options will not be as much as what Garçon Bleu can offer, but the main highlights should be present. Indeed, I was not disappointed as I chanced upon neatly displayed plates of smoked salmon, cheese, and cold cuts. Freshly cut fruits were offered as well. On the pastries side, I was equally pleased as there were plenty of pastries, with different danishes, croissants, and other sliced bread served. Cereal and yoghurt are also available options.

Definitely, breakfast service at the club lounge is meant for those who enjoy privacy and some quietness in the morning. Although you sacrifice food options, you can relax, enjoy your coffee, reflect on the previous day’s fun, and prepare your body for more upcoming fun.

We loved the club lounge as it was very spacious, had lots of natural light shining in, and it was a place where you could relax and unwind. It was unfortunate that we did not have enough time to enjoy the lounge, as we had meal appointments with our friends in the city. Having said that, I hope to be back at Sofitel Adelaide’s Club Millésime again one day to fully enjoy its hospitality!

Breakfast:

The next morning, we opted to have breakfast at the main restaurant, Garçon Bleu, on the 9th floor. We know how luxurious Sofitel breakfasts are, and Sofitel Adelaide is no different. Although we knew we had access to Club Millésime’s breakfast service as well, we wanted to try out the full breakfast service at Garçon Bleu.

The standard Western options that I typically love, including the cold cuts, smoked fish, and cheese, are available. Guests can have as much smoked salmon and brie as they want. Different cereals and pastries, such as chocolate croissants, danishes, and muffins, were also provided. Freshly made yoghurt, muesli, and salad/muesli toppings are also offered. Those preferring whole fruits can opt for kiwis, bananas, apples, pears, and oranges.

The usual hot food, such as hash browns, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausages, is kept warm in Le Creuset cookware, so you will not need to endure any cold or stale food. Those wanting made-to-order eggs can order some omelettes or sunny-side-up eggs at the egg station. There were also pancakes with condiments matching a dentist’s nightmare. I saw Nutella, whipped cream, maple syrup, and fruit compote to go with your pancakes.

Perhaps because we had a long night previously, as we invited our friends up to our suite to chill for a while, I could not eat that much that morning. It was unfortunate, as the food looked really good. A lesson to learn is to save your tummy for the buffet breakfast each morning at Sofitel Adelaide!

Room:

Sofitel Adelaide (Prestige Suite) - The living room
Sofitel Adelaide (Prestige Suite) - The living room

Sofitel Adelaide’s Prestige Suites measure approximately 600 square feet, depending on the room you are assigned. Even though we had no idea exactly how big the suite was, it definitely felt large. When you first enter the suite, a large living room greets you. Beautifully designed with a white theme, the entire suite is bright and huge. It also adds a little luxury to the overall design of the suite. A comfortable L-shaped sofa is in the corner of the living room, while a coffee table is in the middle. During our stay, we received a bottle of red wine, a small bottle of Perrier, and a small bar of chocolates as welcome gifts. They were very much appreciated!

The 55-inch smart television is mounted to the wall and fits seamlessly with the wall. It further makes the room feel very sleek with nothing but perfection. Kudos to the designers and architects of these suites at Sofitel Adelaide. The minibar area is really a small pantry. Stocked with plenty of Dilmah teabags, guests can enjoy multiple servings of tea without ever needing a refill. Nuts and chips are also stocked up, so you can munch on them while catching a show on the 55-inch television. A Nespresso machine with four capsules awaits coffee drinkers, while a fully-stocked fridge greets guests with various soft drinks, juices, water, beer, and a full-size bottle of Taittinger champagne. There is always a reason to celebrate!

There is a small Bose sound system that is perfect for parties in the corner of the living room. This is perfect for those who enjoy a fun time in the comfort of their suite. It is situated in the living room, which is ideal as guests do not need to find an excuse to enter the bedroom. There is a bathroom in the living room as well, so guests can stay put in the living room area!

The bedroom is another wonder. A King-sized bed greets you in the middle of the room, while a full-size wardrobe is in the corner of the bedroom. Honestly, the size of the wardrobe suggests that you are staying in the Prestige Suite for an extended period! On both sides of the bed are the standard wall sockets and lighting controls. Besides a telephone on one side of the bed, there is also a wireless phone charger, so you do not need to use your old-fashioned wired charger. A tablet is on the side table, essential if you need to contact guest services or order room service. Like Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, this came in handy when we ordered some food to enjoy with our friends!

The bathroom is the final wonder of this magnificent suite. Sticking with the white theme, the bathroom also has floor-to-ceiling windows allowing lots of natural light. For those who like some sunlight, including myself, this is a beautiful bathroom. The white theme works perfectly with the natural lighting as well. Toiletries are provided by Balmain, which is consistent with most of the Prestige Suites that I have stayed in thus far. Other thoughtful amenities, including dental kits, a shaving kit, a sewing kit, and a comb, were provided. Maybe the hotel was still new, but those bath towels were fluffy. I loved them.

As there is a nice standalone bathtub by the floor-to-ceiling window, Balmain bath salts were provided. As I was here with my friend, we gave the bathtub a miss. The standing shower worked perfectly, and I absolutely loved the rainforest shower option. There is nothing like a rainforest shower. Probably when I am here with my partner in future, we will try the bathtub. A Dyson hairdryer with different accessories is provided so guests can be assured of beautiful hair before leaving the hotel. As a final reminder of how luxurious the Prestige Suite is, we noticed that Villeroy & Boch, a luxurious brand, provides the bathroom taps.

Views from the room:

From our 24th-storey suite, we had fantastic views of the city. Facing the west, we had quite a clear view of Adelaide Airport, even though I had no idea until we returned home. It was only then that I realised I missed the perfect chance to do some planespotting. For some reason, I did not spot any planes whenever I was snapping pictures from the Prestige Suite. This was in contrast to our time at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, when I spotted multiple planes making their final approach. Such is luck. When I was taking photos of Adelaide and St Vincent Gulf, it came to my mind that the western side of Adelaide was quite flat. Obviously, this is not the case for the entire city, but it was still quite cool witnessing this. We only managed to snap a few pictures of the views from the Prestige Suite. I hope you enjoy them!

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our short stay at Sofitel Adelaide. Almost everything oozes luxury, and it was fun to experience true luxury in the heart of Adelaide. We loved the excellent service provided by every staff member, and we also loved all the meals expertly cooked up by the chefs. Last but not least, we loved the Prestige Suite we stayed in. Everything was beautifully designed, and it was clear the designers and architects were meticulous in ensuring every inch of the suite was perfect. I will definitely be back here again for another stay, this time with my partner!
