I first learned about Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets when I watched a YouTube video by world-famous YouTuber/vlogger and part-time travel tour operator Dennis Bunnik giving a video review on this hotel (check out his YouTube review here!). Since then, I have made it a mission to book a stay at this hotel in Adelaide. And so, when my friend and I were planning a trip to Adelaide, I told him we must stay in this beautiful hotel as it came highly recommended. Thankfully, he is an easy-going chap regarding accommodations, and he generally left it to me to plan the trip and accommodation options. With his blessing secured, I booked a two-night stay at this beautiful hotel!
As part of our 2022 Australian road trip, we made it a point to enjoy the nicer things in life. With that in mind, we booked the gorgeous Indigo Balcony Suite with Bath. It offered us a view of Adelaide Central Market and was the perfect place to do some planespotting. Our balcony had a great view of planes making their final approach into Adelaide Airport.
Come find out how our two-night stay at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets went!
TL:DR
Great hotel in the middle of Adelaide
Top-notch service standards
Delicious food at its restaurant
Beautiful suite
Service:
Service was perfect throughout our stay, and true to the world-renowned Australian hospitality, we felt welcome the entire time. From the time we checked in until the time we checked out, every hotel staff member was nothing but kind and friendly.
One night, when I had to clear some office work, I decided to head down to the lobby restaurant and bar, Market & Meander, to get some fresh air away from our room. The staff was kind enough to guide me to the second floor instead, as it was much quieter and I would not be disturbed. True enough, I was able to focus and managed to clear my work within an hour without any disturbance. The staff also made an effort to recognise guests, and I remember one staff member who recognised us and greeted us whenever we left or entered the hotel. It was such nice gestures from its staff members that made guests feel warm. It is without a doubt that we left Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets with our favourite memory being the hotel staff members.

Hotel Facilities:

Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets has a 24-hour gym and a rooftop swimming pool open between 6 am and 9 pm daily. As we were in Adelaide in August, the weather was way too cold for a tropical body, so the only time I was on the rooftop was to take some awesome pictures. The view from the swimming pool was breathtaking, though.
The 24-hour gym felt much warmer and is definitely a great place to work out during the cooler months. It is a rather compact gym but has all the essentials that one might need during a trip. The usual treadmills and dumbbells are available for use. Of course, we did not use the gym during our trip, but it was always nice to know that there is one available if you ever need it! That it has a gorgeous view of the city is the icing on the cake!
Valet parking is available at this hotel, and it was a breeze. I simply had to fill out some forms and hand over the car key, and they settled everything. It was great because the hotel does not have a car park on its own; you would need to park at the multi-storey car park at Adelaide Central Market. If you fear the inconvenience, which was how we felt, leave it to the experts at this hotel. Perfect!
Food:
Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets has two restaurants serving customers. The first and main restaurant, Market & Meander, is on the ground floor and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was also where we had one dinner and our final breakfast before checking out of the hotel.
Merrymaker Rooftop Bar is on the 16th floor at the hotel's top. It is open only on selected evenings, and unfortunately, it was closed during our stay. Based on our last check, it is usually open between Wednesdays and Sundays, but our stay was from Monday to Wednesday. What luck! However, make sure you check out Dennis Bunnik’s YouTube video (link here!) as he guides you to a fun-filled evening at this lovely rooftop bar!
Dinner:
Back at Market & Meander, we had the privilege of enjoying two meals at this restaurant. On our second night in Adelaide, we had an early evening and decided to eat there. I always loved trying the food at hotels, and this was no different.
Back then, the menu was relatively simple, and we could easily decide our food choices. While my friend had the Murraylands 300g Flat Iron Steak, I always enjoyed a fish dish and ordered the Whole Robe Baby Barramundi. We then ordered Green Beans, Crispy Potatoes, and Polipo, a braised octopus, to share.
Every dish was delicious, and we finished everything. The Polipo was yummy, and it had just the right amount of chewiness, a sign that it was cooked to perfection. The leeks and olives balanced each other out and greatly complemented the octopus.
The crispy potatoes and green beans were standard and great to share. They also serve as essential carbohydrates and fibre, which can only benefit your body. Of course, everything in moderation.
While I did not try the steak, my friend, an earnest steak lover, gave two thumbs up! Covered in smoked cipollini onion butter sauce, it was definitely very inviting. Nevertheless, I resisted the temptation and enjoyed my entire barramundi! The fish was sublime. Beautifully and grilled before being coated with some salsa verde, the lemon cheek stuffed in the gill provided even more flavour to the dish. I always love a simple dish, and this barramundi was mouthwateringly yummy. I can never say no to a simply-cooked fish dish.
Finally, we had to have something sweet to end the meal. Of course, this meant ordering a slice of the House Made Limoncello & White Chocolate Tiramisu. Without going into too much detail, it was heavenly.

An interesting thing to note is how Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets tries to source its food locally. On the menu, you can find the locations where some of the food is sourced from. Many of the key ingredients are sourced right in South Australia. This is something I love about this country, as they have so much pride in their food, and they try to source everything locally to support each other and bring pride to their state and country. We discovered that our steak came from Murraylands while the barramundi came from Robe. The olives that came with our Polipo dish came from Kangaroo Island. It is always meaningful when you know where your food came from, and we can imagine the pride that these South Australians have in serving customers from all over the world.

Breakfast:
The next morning, we took the opportunity to try out the hotel’s breakfast service before checking out and heading to our next hotel.

Breakfast service at Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets is slightly different from what one might be used to. Instead of having a conventional buffet service or just a simple set meal, the folks at this hotel decided to combine the two to offer a unique breakfast service. Guests can order one main dish from their breakfast menu and have free-flow items from the buffet line. This works perfectly for smaller hotels like Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, as this means you do not have the risk of wasting food while ensuring that hotel guests have the option of enjoying a complete and loaded breakfast.

For our main course, we both had the Harris Smoked Ocean Trout. Essentially an Eggs Atlantic, their version came with pumpkin toast, baby spinach, finger lime, and poached eggs, all drizzled with some applewood gin and hollandaise sauce. It was quite a luxurious version of the standard Eggs Atlantic. It was delicious. Besides the Harris Smoked Ocean Trout, there are also other appetising options. Some key dishes that sounded very appetising included the Lobster Omelette (with a A$9 supplement), Kangaroo Island Oats Bircher Muesli, and the Market & Meander Big Breakfast, which included eggs, bacon, chicken sausage, potato rosti, baked beans, and a pumpkin toast. It was a big breakfast all right, and I doubt I could enjoy anything on the buffet line after that! Maybe the next time I am here, I will try it!
The buffet line had plenty of options. There were different pastries to select from, including croissants, sponge cakes, muffins, and various doughnuts. There are different types of bread slices already cut up for guests to take, including multigrain, wholemeal, and good old plain white bread. Different jams are available for your bread slices, and you can enjoy the famous Beerenberg jams, go for the usual butter or Nutella, or go crazy and try the Aussie favourite, Vegemite! You can also enjoy cereal with milk, grab some fresh fruits or have a glass of fruit juice.
Probably still full from the previous night’s dinner, we had a relatively light breakfast. Besides our main course, we only enjoyed a few types of carbohydrates and fruits and washed it down with a hot cup of Long Black. It was a simple and nice breakfast, to which we had no complaints. I usually cannot eat too much for the first meal of the day, and this was just nice for me. All in all, it was a good breakfast.
Room:

Our Indigo Balcony Suite with Bath was located on the 14th floor, just two floors from the rooftop bar. This means that you have a great view of the city from the comfort of your room.
When you first enter the suite, you are greeted with a spacious living room and balcony just beyond. The living room is designed with hints of a copper/industrial theme, most prominently seen by the cabinets and structure around the television. Indeed, after going through the hotel website, I realise the connection. South Australia has a rich copper mining past, and it was even known as the Copper Kingdom. These were designed to pay tribute to the state’s rich history. The open-concept wardrobe in the living room is excellent for travellers who wish to grab and go, especially their jackets. It is also thoughtfully designed, as there is a portion where you can hang long dresses without fear of them touching the floor or your less-than-clean luggage.
The workstation appears to be directly below the television, although this might be intentional. If you wish to work, you really should focus and switch off the television. Of course, that will mean that your partner will need to suffer with you, or she could head to the bedroom to watch some TV.
The minibar is right at the corner of the massive copper infrastructure, where you can use the suite’s coffee machine to enjoy some Nero coffee. Alternatively, use the suite’s kettle, boil some hot water, and make a proper tea with the T BAR teabags, a family-owned and operated Australian tea company. For those feeling peckish, you can rely on the chips and nuts on display. Those needing a drink can open the fridge, and you can choose from both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Behind the living room is a small dining table that seats four. It is a great place for discussions or proper work, although we can see that it will most likely be used for meals and informal chatting.

This suite has one massive bathroom with a standing shower and a bath. During our time here, we did not take any baths, but we were sure impressed with the bathroom. Toiletries are provided by Biology, an Australian skin care brand that we first came across in Mount Gambier Hotel. We loved this brand and we enjoyed using it in Adelaide as well. Other hotel-branded toiletries, including dental and shaving kits, are also provided. For those serious about taking a bath, there is a bathtub tray that should hold a book or iPad, along with your beverage of choice. With so much soap and water, we recommend using an iPad instead.
The bedroom has a King-sized bed that was extremely comfortable. One of the best features of this bedroom is probably the fact that each side of the bed has its own wall sockets, so both parties can charge their phones overnight. Both sides can also control the lighting, so one of you can sleep first without worrying about disturbing the other party.
We liked the literature provided in the bedroom, showcasing what Adelaide has to offer. There was a huge coffee table book about Adelaide Central Market, while another huge book about the Adelaide Festival was also provided. One more thing we love about the room and the suite was the unique wallpaper that was peppered all over the suite. A key feature of Hotel Indigo, true to its name (Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets), is that every hotel is special and pays special homage to its surroundings. In this case, it displays beautiful artsy materials about the Adelaide Festival. If I had not known this festival existed before, I know now!
The balcony is a gorgeous place that allows guests to have a great view of the city. Fitted with an outdoor table and chairs, it is a great place to relax and unwind, weather permitting. During our stay in Adelaide, the weather was too cold for us to loiter too long outside. However, I can see how it will be a great place come springtime. For those used to the cooler winter temperatures, this is the perfect place to warm your body with some hot chocolate.
