For this trip to Ho Chi Minh City, I wanted to stay somewhere a little different. Instead of booking another traditional luxury hotel, I decided to try Fusion Original Saigon Centre, a modern lifestyle hotel located directly above Saigon Centre in the heart of District 1.
Its central location and distinctive concept immediately caught my attention, but did the actual stay live up to expectations? In this review, I will share my firsthand experience, covering everything from the room and facilities to breakfast, service and whether I think it is worth booking for your next visit to Ho Chi Minh City.

Introduction
When planning our stay in Ho Chi Minh City, our relatives recommended Fusion Original Saigon Centre after enjoying their own stay there. They spoke highly of its location in the heart of District 1, with Saigon Centre directly below the hotel and many of the city's top attractions within walking distance. It sounded like the perfect base for exploring Ho Chi Minh City.
As I was not familiar with the Fusion brand, I thought it would simply be a comfortable place to stay while we explored the city. Instead, Fusion Original Saigon Centre pleasantly surprised me. The rooms were modern and thoughtfully designed, the service was warm and attentive, and the hotel's central location made sightseeing effortless. In this review, I will share my firsthand experience and whether I think it is worth booking for your next trip to Ho Chi Minh City.
Hotel Location
One of Fusion Original Saigon Centre's biggest strengths is undoubtedly its location. Situated directly above Saigon Centre in the heart of District 1, the hotel is within easy reach of many of Ho Chi Minh City's most popular attractions, including Ben Thanh Market, Saigon Square and Nguyen Hue Walking Street.
Although we were travelling with older family members and often used Grab for convenience, we quickly realised just how central the hotel was. After having difficulty booking a Grab at Ben Thanh Market one afternoon, my relatives decided to walk back instead and were surprised that it took only about five minutes. Throughout our stay, we also comfortably walked to Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Saigon Square and Takashimaya.
Saigon Centre
Having Saigon Centre directly below the hotel made a real difference to our trip. More than just a shopping mall, it became a convenient place for us to grab a coffee, enjoy a meal, buy groceries, pick up a few items from Uniqlo and Onitsuka Tiger, and even have our final lunch before leaving Ho Chi Minh City. It also made it easy for our family to split up during the day and meet again later without having to travel far.
For Singaporeans, Saigon Centre will likely feel very familiar. With Takashimaya as its anchor department store, alongside numerous cafés, restaurants and international brands, it feels much like a modern shopping mall back home. That familiarity, combined with the hotel's central location, makes it an excellent choice for first-time visitors to Ho Chi Minh City.
One thing to keep in mind is that while many attractions are within walking distance, crossing the roads in Ho Chi Minh City can be daunting for first-time visitors because of the constant flow of motorcycles. Families travelling with young children or older relatives may still find Grab to be the more comfortable option for some journeys.
Overall, if you are looking for a hotel that provides a convenient base for exploring District 1, I think Fusion Original Saigon Centre is difficult to beat.
Check-In Experience
Our first impression of Fusion Original Saigon Centre was a positive one. The lobby had a modern and stylish design, with a vibrant colour palette that felt different from the traditional luxury hotels we had stayed in previously. It created a welcoming atmosphere without feeling overly formal.
The check-in process itself was quick and efficient. There was no queue when we arrived, and the staff warmly welcomed us before offering assistance with our luggage. To our surprise, we were also informed that we had received a complimentary upgrade to a Premium Deluxe Room. It was an unexpected gesture that made an already smooth arrival even more enjoyable.
The reception staff spoke good English and clearly explained everything we needed to know about the hotel, including the breakfast venue, swimming pool, gym, complimentary pantry on each floor and Wi-Fi access. The information was concise and easy to follow, allowing us to settle into our stay without any confusion.
Check-out was just as straightforward. After settling a small dining charge, the entire process took only a few minutes. The staff also efficiently stored our luggage while we headed out for our final sightseeing and lunch before returning to collect it later that day.
Premium Deluxe Room Review
If there was one aspect of Fusion Original Saigon Centre that exceeded my expectations the most, it was the room. From the moment I opened the door, my first thought was, "Wow, this is nice." I had booked the hotel primarily because of its location, but the room itself quickly became one of the highlights of our stay. It felt modern, spacious and thoughtfully designed, with plenty of practical touches that made it comfortable to return to after a day of exploring Ho Chi Minh City.
Bedroom & Layout
Our complimentary upgraded Premium Deluxe Room immediately felt spacious. The designers have done an excellent job creating a room that feels modern without being overly minimalist. Everything seemed to have been carefully considered, from the built-in sofa and wardrobe to the generous amount of walking space throughout the room.
One of my favourite design features was the bathroom. The designers incorporated a large circular opening between the two spaces, giving the room a more open and contemporary feel. If you prefer additional privacy, a wooden blind can easily be lowered to cover the opening. It was a simple but stylish design element that gave the room a little more character than the typical hotel layout.
The king-sized bed was very comfortable and came with universal power sockets and reading lights on both sides, making it easy to charge our devices overnight. It was one of those rooms that immediately made us feel we had chosen the right hotel.
Bathroom
The bathroom continued the room's modern design while being highly practical. It featured both a separate bathtub and an enclosed rainfall shower, allowing us to enjoy the best of both worlds. The shower pressure was excellent throughout our stay, making every shower a refreshing experience after a day in Ho Chi Minh City's heat.
I also appreciated that the toilet was located in its own enclosed compartment within the bathroom. This meant one person could comfortably shower or get ready while the other used the toilet, something that couples will certainly appreciate.
The hotel-branded toiletries were another pleasant surprise. Although I could not identify the manufacturer, they had a fresh fragrance that lingered pleasantly after each shower. The bathroom was also well stocked with quality amenities, including sturdy wooden-style toothbrushes, a comb, shower cap, vanity kit and body lotion. The wooden toothbrushes, in particular, felt noticeably more substantial than those provided by many hotels and comfortably lasted our entire three-night stay.
Amenities & In-Room Features
Fusion Original Saigon Centre includes all the usual in-room amenities, but it also adds a few thoughtful touches that help distinguish it from many other hotels.
The first thing that caught my eye was the Marshall Bluetooth speaker. It certainly gives the room a stylish touch, but it is also fully functional. I connected my phone a couple of times to play some music while relaxing in the room, and although I did not use it extensively, I have to admit it made me want to buy one for my own home.
The room also comes with a large television that supports YouTube alongside the usual television channels. While each floor already has a complimentary pantry, the room itself still includes tea, freshly ground coffee and a French press, allowing guests to prepare their own drinks if they prefer. A kettle is also provided, although I found myself using the pantry's hot water machine instead.
The minibar was another pleasant surprise. In addition to four complimentary glass bottles of drinking water, the refrigerator also included four complimentary canned drinks, including Coca-Cola and beer, which could be enjoyed once during our stay. Other amenities such as bathrobes, slippers, a safe and a hairdryer are also provided, while the universal power sockets include USB-A charging ports for added convenience.
Workspace
For guests who need to get some work done, the room also includes a dedicated workspace with a comfortable chair and plenty of power sockets nearby. The desk faces the television, so your travelling companion could still watch television while you work, although thankfully the room is spacious enough that this never felt intrusive.
The Wi-Fi was reliable throughout our stay, and I could genuinely see myself working here if needed. Having previously worked remotely from a cruise cabin, I actually found this workspace significantly more comfortable and practical.
Views
Our room on the 20th floor overlooked Bitexco Financial Tower, providing a pleasant city view throughout our stay. While I personally would not pay extra solely for the view, it was certainly a nice bonus and complemented the room nicely.
To me, however, the room itself is the main attraction. If given the choice, I would happily pay for this room category again because of its spacious layout and thoughtful design rather than simply for the higher-floor view.
Sleep Quality & Noise Levels
We both slept very well throughout our stay. The king-sized bed was comfortable, the air-conditioning worked perfectly, and the blackout curtains blocked out almost all external light. On some nights, we actually chose to leave only the day curtains closed so that a little natural light could filter into the room the next morning.
Perhaps even more impressive was the soundproofing. Despite being located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, I could not hear any traffic noise from outside, nor did I hear our neighbours or activity along the corridors. Considering how lively District 1 can be, the room remained remarkably peaceful throughout our stay.
Final Thoughts on the Room
The room was one of the biggest surprises of our stay at Fusion Original Saigon Centre. While the hotel's location may initially attract most travellers, I genuinely believe the room is good enough to justify the room rate on its own.
Combined with its excellent location, thoughtful design and comfortable amenities, it became one of those hotel rooms that I looked forward to returning to after a full day of sightseeing. If I stayed at Fusion Original Saigon Centre again, it would not just be because of its location—it would also be because I genuinely enjoyed spending time in the room.
Facilities
Fusion Original Saigon Centre offers the usual facilities you'd expect from a hotel of this standard, including a rooftop swimming pool and gym. However, the facility that really stood out to me was not either of those—it was the complimentary pantry available on every guest floor.
Complimentary Pantry
To be honest, I thought this was a brilliant idea.
Instead of limiting guests to the usual two coffee sachets or capsules found in most hotel rooms, Fusion Original Saigon Centre provides a complimentary pantry on every floor, available 24 hours a day. Each pantry is equipped with a coffee machine serving drinks such as Americanos and Lattes, together with a separate machine dispensing hot water, cold water and ice. A selection of Twinings tea, sugar sachets, paper cups with lids and serviettes are also available.
I actually found myself using the pantry several times during our stay. Rather than making a cup of instant coffee in the room, I could simply head outside, prepare a freshly brewed latte, and bring it back to enjoy while relaxing. Since the machine uses fresh milk, it was also reassuring to see that the pantry was kept clean and regularly maintained.
Another nice touch is that complimentary snacks and fresh fruits are served twice daily, from 6.00 am to 12.00 pm and again from 2.00 pm to 8.00 pm. One afternoon, while waiting for my wife, I picked up a hot latte and a couple of mini muffins before heading back to the room to relax. It might seem like a small detail, but it was one of those thoughtful touches that made the stay feel a little more enjoyable.
Rooftop Swimming Pool
The rooftop swimming pool is located on the sixth floor and overlooks Bitexco Financial Tower. Although I did not have the opportunity to use it during our stay, it appeared to be a good size for a hotel of this scale, with plenty of sun loungers for guests looking to relax. There is also a small kiosk selling drinks and light bites, making it easy to spend a leisurely afternoon by the pool.
Gym
The hotel also has a gym, although I did not manage to visit it during our stay as it is located in an adjoining building.
Overall, while the swimming pool and gym are welcome facilities, I think the complimentary pantry is what really sets Fusion Original Saigon Centre apart. It is a facility that I genuinely found myself using every day, and it is one of those small details that made the hotel feel more thoughtful than many others I have stayed at.
Breakfast & Dining
Breakfast
Breakfast is served at Miss Thu Restaurant on the hotel's top floor, offering a bright and spacious setting that's a pleasant place to start the day. Although our room rate did not include breakfast during my stay, I visited the restaurant to look at the buffet and found the variety better than I expected.
The buffet featured a good selection of Western and Asian breakfast favourites, including cereals, fresh fruits, pastries, salads, cold cuts, yoghurt, bacon, sausages, hash browns, fried rice, noodles, congee and roasted honey ham. There was also a good range of drinks, including Vietnamese coffee, juices and milk. While I did not notice an egg station, the hotel also offers an à la carte breakfast menu that has various dishes, including egg dishes.
One thing I noticed was that the buffet focused primarily on international breakfast favourites. However, guests looking for Vietnamese dishes can also order them from the à la carte menu, suggesting the hotel prefers to prepare these dishes fresh rather than serve them on the buffet.
At approximately VND467,000 nett per person, I think the breakfast would be worth considering if you prefer a relaxed start to the day before heading out to explore the city, especially for families travelling with young children.
Dinner at Miss Thu Restaurant
While I skipped breakfast, I actually had dinner at Miss Thu Restaurant on two occasions, giving me a much better opportunity to experience the hotel's dining.
Overall, I enjoyed the meals. The restaurant offers a good mix of Western and Vietnamese dishes, making it easy for groups with different preferences to find something they will enjoy.
Among the dishes we tried, the grilled seabass and black cod were my favourites. The fish was well-cooked and full of flavour. The chicken breast was also enjoyable, although both the black cod and chicken portions were on the smaller side. Fortunately, the staff acknowledged this, so we ordered several side dishes to share, including truffle mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, sautéed mushrooms and fried sweet potatoes. Of these, I particularly enjoyed the truffle mashed potatoes, while the sweet potatoes were a little underwhelming.
We also sampled several Vietnamese dishes, including Bun Cha Hanoi, Bánh Đa Cua, the restaurant's signature fresh and fried spring rolls, and the Wagyu Beef Pho. The standout among my family was definitely the Wagyu Beef Pho. Served with a generous bone marrow, it quickly became everyone's favourite dish over the two dinners. If you are dining at Miss Thu, this is the dish I would recommend ordering.
Overall, I would not describe Miss Thu Restaurant as a destination restaurant, but it serves good-quality food in a comfortable setting. If you have had a long day exploring Ho Chi Minh City and do not feel like heading out again, it is a reliable and enjoyable option that is conveniently located within the hotel.
Service
Although I did not have many reasons to approach the staff during my stay, every interaction I had was consistently warm, friendly and professional. Whether it was during check-in, check-out or while dining at Miss Thu Restaurant, the staff were always approachable, smiling and happy to help.
One thing I particularly appreciated was that the friendliness never felt forced. In my personal experience, the staff came across as genuinely welcoming, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere throughout our stay.
Housekeeping also did an excellent job. Our room was cleaned thoroughly each day, the bed was neatly made and everything was replenished as expected. It was one of those aspects of the stay that quietly worked well in the background without ever requiring our attention.
The moment that impressed me the most actually happened after we had already checked out. Shortly after leaving the hotel, I received an email informing me that I had accidentally left a few personal belongings behind. The hotel kindly offered to either keep them until my next visit or arrange to send them back to me. As I no longer needed the items, I replied about a week later, asking if they could dispose of them instead. Despite my delayed response, the hotel replied promptly, acknowledged my request and handled everything professionally.
It might seem like a small gesture, but to me it reflected the hotel's attention to detail and genuine care for its guests. Long after the stay had ended, they were still making the effort to ensure nothing had been overlooked.
Who This Hotel Is Best For
First-Time Visitors to Ho Chi Minh City
If you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City for the first time, Fusion Original Saigon Centre is an easy hotel to recommend. Its location in the heart of District 1 means many of the city's most popular attractions are either within walking distance or just a short Grab ride away. Having Saigon Centre directly below the hotel is another huge advantage, providing plenty of restaurants, cafés, shopping and even a supermarket whenever you need a break from sightseeing.
Families
I think families will appreciate this hotel the most. Whether you're travelling with young children or elderly parents, having a convenient base makes a huge difference. If anyone gets tired after exploring the city, it is never a long journey back to the hotel. Once everyone has rested, heading back out again is just as easy. During our stay, we also found the shopping mall below the hotel incredibly useful for meals, coffee breaks and even last-minute shopping.
Couples
Couples who enjoy staying in the heart of the city will also find plenty to like here. While Fusion Original Saigon Centre is not designed as a luxury or romantic retreat, its stylish rooms and central location make it an excellent base for exploring Ho Chi Minh City together.
Shopping Enthusiasts
If shopping is one of the main reasons you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City, it is hard to beat this location. Saigon Centre is directly connected to the hotel and is home to Takashimaya, international brands such as Uniqlo, Adidas, Nike and Onitsuka Tiger, together with numerous cafés, restaurants and a supermarket. Saigon Square and Ben Thanh Market are also within walking distance, making it easy to explore both international brands and local bargain shopping.
Business Travellers
Business travellers may also find Fusion Original Saigon Centre a practical choice. While it does not have the grand business facilities found at some international hotel chains, its central location, reliable Wi-Fi and reasonable room rates make it a convenient base for those with meetings in and around District 1.
This Hotel May Not Be the Best Choice If...
Fusion Original Saigon Centre is not trying to be a grand luxury hotel, and I think that is important to understand before booking. If you are looking for an experience similar to hotels such as Park Hyatt Saigon or other traditional luxury properties, you may find the atmosphere here more contemporary than luxurious. Likewise, food lovers hoping to stay at a hotel that is renowned for its dining may prefer other options, as the real strength here is its location rather than its restaurants. Digital nomads planning a longer stay may also find the room rates on the higher side, while travellers looking for a beach resort or a secluded getaway should naturally look elsewhere.
Value for Money
At around S$172 per night for our Premium Deluxe Room, I think Fusion Original Saigon Centre offers excellent value for money.
What you are really paying for is not a traditional luxury hotel experience. Instead, you are paying for one of the most convenient locations in District 1, modern and thoughtfully designed rooms, genuine service and practical touches such as the complimentary pantry on every guest floor. When you put everything together, I found the overall experience difficult to fault at this price point.
Personally, I think this hotel sits in a sweet spot. If the room rate increased to around S$220 per night, I would probably start looking at other options, particularly if breakfast was not included. However, at around S$172, I think it is priced very competitively for what it offers.
If I were comparing hotels in this price range, I would probably also look at Hotel des Arts Saigon and Pullman Saigon Centre. Even then, I would still happily choose Fusion Original Saigon Centre if convenience and location were my top priorities. The only compromise is that, unlike some international hotel chains, staying here will not help travellers earn hotel loyalty programme benefits.
For travellers with a budget of around S$180 per night, Fusion Original Saigon Centre would be one of my first recommendations. If budget is the main concern, boutique hotels such as M Village may offer better savings. However, if you are looking for an excellent balance of location, comfort and convenience, I think Fusion Original Saigon Centre is genuinely difficult to beat at its current price.

Fusion Original Saigon Centre exceeded my expectations in more ways than one. I initially chose the hotel because of its excellent location in the heart of District 1, but by the end of our stay, it was the thoughtfully designed room, genuine service and practical touches such as the complimentary pantry that left the biggest impression on me.
This is not a traditional luxury hotel, nor is it trying to compete with the grand five-star properties in Ho Chi Minh City. Instead, Fusion Original Saigon Centre focuses on delivering what many travellers value most: a stylish and comfortable room, an unbeatable location, genuine hospitality and excellent convenience. At around S$172 per night, I think it offers outstanding value for money.
Would I recommend it? Absolutely. If you are visiting Ho Chi Minh City for the first time, travelling with family, or simply want a comfortable and well-located base for exploring District 1, I do not think you will regret booking Fusion Original Saigon Centre.
Perhaps the biggest compliment I can give this hotel is this: if I were not reviewing hotels for Straitstravellers, I would happily book Fusion Original Saigon Centre again on my next trip to Ho Chi Minh City. To me, that is the clearest sign that the hotel got the important things right.

Having stayed at several hotels in Ho Chi Minh City over the years, I often get asked which one I would recommend. The truth is that there is no single "best" hotel—it really depends on the type of trip you are planning. Choose Hotel des Arts Saigon - MGallery if...
You would like a more luxurious stay without sacrificing style. Hotel des Arts offers a more premium experience, with facilities such as a rooftop bar, rooftop swimming pool, executive lounge for Club guests and one of my favourite breakfast buffets in Ho Chi Minh City. If your budget allows and luxury is a higher priority than absolute convenience, I would happily recommend Hotel des Arts.
Choose JW Marriott Hotel & Suites Saigon if...
You are travelling for business, collect Marriott Bonvoy points or simply prefer staying with an internationally recognised hotel brand. It offers a more traditional international hotel experience, making it a strong option for business travellers or loyal Marriott guests.
Choose M Village Tôn Thất Đạm if...
Budget is your main priority. M Village offers a much more affordable boutique hotel experience while still enjoying a convenient District 1 location. However, if the price difference is not significant, I personally think Fusion Original Saigon Centre offers noticeably better value thanks to its larger rooms, more comfortable layout, better breakfast, quieter environment and overall higher-quality experience.
When would I avoid Sofitel Saigon Plaza?
Having stayed there previously, I personally think there are now stronger options available in Ho Chi Minh City. Compared with Fusion Original Saigon Centre, the rooms feel more dated, the location is less convenient for exploring District 1, and, in my experience, the overall service was not quite as memorable. Unless you have a specific reason for staying there, I would choose one of the other hotels above instead.

A9: Having stayed in the Premium Deluxe Room, I would happily recommend it. The room felt spacious, modern and thoughtfully designed, with a comfortable king-sized bed, a generous bathroom, city views and plenty of practical amenities. It was easily one of the highlights of our stay.

The combination of its excellent location, comfortable rooms and overall value for money makes it a hotel I would confidently return to.

A11: The room. While the location is undoubtedly one of the hotel's biggest selling points, it was actually the room that exceeded my expectations the most. It was modern, spacious, comfortable and thoughtfully designed, making it one of the highlights of our stay.
