Hotel Review: Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam (Deluxe Room)

We were thinking of a weekend trip to Batam and began researching the hotel options there. The one that stood out was Batam Marriott Hotel Harbour Bay, but because of our impromptu decision, as usual, to visit Batam, the prices for a 2-night stay were relatively high.
We started looking around on Agoda and came across Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam. We heard of Radisson, although we have not had the opportunity to stay in one yet. A quick check on the prices showed that it was very affordable. Priced at S$199.73 for a two-night long weekend stay, we thought this was as good as it gets!
It is located at a golf course, which means it will be very quiet and peaceful, while it is only a short 10-minute Grab ride to Grand Batam Mall, the main city area in Batam. Everything looks to be a win-win situation. We quickly booked it, just a month before our journey, and looked forward to our Batam trip!

Service:
Service was excellent throughout our stay at Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left the hotel, every staff member we encountered greeted us with nothing but smiles. The check-in staff were very friendly, while the folks at the buffet restaurant were also always eager to assist and help with our requests. Everything at this hotel was fantastic and was one of the key highlights of staying at this lovely place.
Hotel Facilities:
Located on a golf range, Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam naturally has a golf course. Besides the obvious golf activities one can take part in, there are also family-friendly activities, including archery, batik painting, tie-dye making, and cupcake decorating. These are all fun things that families can enjoy together, and you can ask the concierge for more information. The hotel also helpfully displays a signboard for guests to notice, complete with the prices, in case they miss out on these fun things.
For those seeking a little more adventure, one can head up to the 10th floor for some sports. There is an indoor pool that is weatherproof, a jacuzzi just beside it, and a snooker table sits in the middle of the area waiting for friends to enjoy a game. A table tennis table and a gym are located on the same floor, great for those who prefer perspiring during sports. In the same area sit sofas and coffee tables that are perfect for a bonding session. We headed up to check it out and found that it was pretty empty, which might be ideal for those seeking a relaxing afternoon away from the sun.
Of course, the outdoor swimming pool is on the first floor, where guests can enjoy the sun’s warmth while swimming or soaking in the pool. Those who prefer to remain dry can suntan on the many sunbeds. There is a pool bar nearby, so your eating and drinking needs will be fully met.

Breakfast:
Breakfast buffet is served daily at Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam’s main restaurant, Bite Restaurant. Depending on your room’s rate, it may or may not come with breakfast included.
For our stay, our rate did not include breakfast. Staying for two nights, we decided to have breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant on the day of our departure. It was nice to relax and not rush on the final day of our holiday. During our check-in, the hotel staff member asked if we wanted to have breakfast, and we opted to do so for our final day at IDR460,000 nett for two persons.
The breakfast spread was pretty good. The usual suspects of salads, yoghurt, cheese, and cold cuts were available. There is a small area offering local food, including Indonesia’s famous Gado-gado. There is also an assortment of different sauces for guests to enjoy. Those who prefer a Western-style breakfast can look forward to a variety of pastries, pizza, sandwiches, and fresh fruits.
The hot food counters are pretty impressive as well, with two distinct cuisines offered. There are quite a few Asian selections, from fried rice and bee hoon to sauteed vegetables and fried tofu. Different types of curries and prata are also offered. The other kind of cuisine includes hash browns, mushrooms, sausages, baked beans, and corn soup. So, your typical Western breakfast options.
A highlight of the breakfast buffet is probably the live egg station, which differs from the usual buffets just a little. Over here, guests can request a serving of Eggs Benedict, choosing either chicken ham or smoked salmon as their choice of filling. I promptly placed my order, and it was soon cooked to order. Those who prefer the standard options, such as sunny side-ups or omelettes, can also do so.
I love the fact that the breakfast buffet offers beef patties, satays, and baked salmon! During our breakfast, I noticed that the baked salmon was gone entirely, probably because it might be one of the most popular dishes for breakfast goers. To Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam’s absolute credit, they replenished the dish with another entire salmon when it was only about 15 minutes before breakfast service ended. I was able to make use of this opportunity to try some baked salmon, which was totally delicious.
Cold food lovers can look forward to different types of cereal, various milk options, and toppings such as prunes and walnuts. There are four milk choices: standard fresh milk, low-fat milk, semi-skim milk, and soy milk. If you cannot pick from one of these four, I have no comments.
There is a kids’ corner so the little ones can enjoy breakfast as well. Besides pizza, there are nuggets and fries to take. Everyone knows these are the best foods one can enjoy at that age. The chocolate fondue machine is also helpfully located beside the kids’ corner so the young at heart, myself included, can indulge in some sweet treats.
Moving on to the beverage section, there is just so much to try. There are coffee machines around the counters for guests to help themselves to coffee. Simply push a button to get your preferred type of coffee. Options include espressos, Americanos, lattes, flat whites, and cappuccinos. Mochas and Milo are also available on the same machines. Need decaf coffee? No problem. There is a small Nespresso machine with decaf coffee capsules. Not a fan of Western coffee? Sure. Feel free to try some local coffee. Many sachets of powdered coffee are located on a counter for guests to try. You do not drink coffee? Of course. There are tea bags of different varieties, complete with lemon slices, ginger, and cinnamon, along with pots of hot water, for your needs. Do not want caffeine? Grab some fruit juices! Or better yet, squeeze some orange juice yourself! There is a counter where guests can use a machine to squeeze out fresh orange juice, with the oranges provided, of course. Wow, I have not seen so many types of drinks being served at a breakfast buffet. Simply put, all your beverage needs will be fulfilled at this breakfast buffet!
Overall, it was a great breakfast buffet. We certainly enjoyed the breakfast, which had something for everyone. Quite uniquely catered to families, everyone will enjoy the food on offer. The large variety of drinks available was a surprise and highlight for us. While we opted for the basic Americano and orange juice (already squeezed in a container), we can definitely see families enjoying all the different drinks on offer. We were glad to have tried Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam’s breakfast buffet.
Liminal Coffee + Bites:
Besides Bite Restaurant, Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam has a cafe onsite that allows guests to relax while enjoying a cup of coffee, with some slices of cake, of course.
On the day of our departure, we figured we still had a little more time before needing to head to the ferry terminal. Rather than head there early and wait for boarding, we went to Liminal Coffee + Bites to enjoy a final light bite at the hotel. Immediately after checking out, we walked directly to the cafe and ordered coffee with a slice of cake to share.
We found out that, besides the usual coffee, drinks, and cakes, the cafe serves complete meals as well. We checked out its menu and saw quite an extensive offering. Besides all-day breakfast options, it also has sandwiches, salads, soups, and main courses, like chicken breast, pasta, and beef ribs. It all sounded so good, actually, and it was a pity we already had a full breakfast that morning. Nevertheless, we were satisfied with our coffee and cake before heading to the ferry terminal.
It was a nice place to relax, as it was pretty quiet, being situated away from the lobby, almost hidden in one corner of the hotel. That is probably a good thing, as it offers a high level of privacy and peace for guests. We knew we enjoyed some quietness before heading back to the buzzing ferry terminal.
Liminal Coffee + Bites serves Starbucks coffee, so there is no question about the quality of the coffee beans. Our cake tasted delicious, and it went well with the coffee. Open between 9 am and 9 pm daily, this would be the perfect place to hang out if you ever feel cooped up in your room, or want to escape from the crowds at the swimming pool.
Room:
We booked the Deluxe Room, which is just above the entry-level Superior Room. The Deluxe Room has 30 square metres of space, identical to the Superior Room, with the only difference being the view that it offers. While the Superior Room provides city views, the Deluxe Room has views of the golf course. For this reason, we chose to book the Deluxe Room. We wanted somewhere relaxing, and we know we will love the peace and greenery that the view of the golf course this room offers.
When you first step into the room, you will be greeted with an open-concept bathroom on your side. The wardrobe, safe, and ironing board are also on the same side. Friends might not be too comfortable staying in this room together. Complimentary dental kits and body lotions are provided, while Radisson-branded shampoo and body wash are placed in the standing shower for guests’ convenience. Two complimentary bottled water are provided as well.
Caffeine options come in the form of Nescafé coffee sachets and Lipton teabags. Guests can boil their hot water with the kettle provided in each room. The minibar, unfortunately, has nothing inside, although it might be useful for those who want to keep their drinks cold in the fridge.
The King-sized bed occupies the central area of the room, facing the television. On either side of the bed sits a side table, and the room’s lighting can be controlled on both sides of the bed. A wall plug is also available on each side.
A workstation sits directly in front of the television, so it might be better to switch off the television if you need to do some work on your laptop. Otherwise, it could be very distracting, as well as damaging to your eyes and ears, if you choose to watch some television from that distance. A comfy chair is located near the wall facing the bed, while another chair is at the workstation. What we found was that it was better to face each other when chatting, and we sat on each chair to talk. We are not quite sure what to make of the chair facing the bed!
The highlight of the room is, of course, the balcony. It faces the swimming pool and golf course, so guests enjoy plenty of natural sunlight and greenery. It is mesmerising at any time of the day, and during our stay, we also encountered a few types of weather. We saw misty mornings, sunny afternoons, and bright moonlit evenings. Throw in some laughter and fun from the swimming pool, and it was the perfect location for a relaxing holiday at the Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam.
The balcony is quite spacious, with lots of space to move about. Facing the golf greens and swimming pool, it offers a fantastic view of the surrounding area. We spent some time relaxing on the lounge chairs at night, chatting away. Because of the design of the hotel rooms, the balcony is also quite private, as guests from the room next door will not be able to peek in. Having said that, you might not want to talk too loudly, though.
Views from the room:
The magnificent views offered from the balcony cannot be understated. The skies looked really beautiful, and being in a tropical country, you get to see many types of weather, which in turn affects your views. We had a great time just looking out from the balcony, and that was exactly what we wanted from the vacation: a relaxing time. We were glad to have booked this room!
Radisson Golf & Convention Center Batam was a great find, and we were blessed to have found this place. At such an affordable rate, offering a quiet and peaceful place for rest, while near to the central shopping districts, Radisson must be at the top of any traveller’s list when searching for accommodation options in Batam. We know that we will be back here again!
