Set in the historic heart of Luang Prabang, 3 Nagas Luang Prabang – MGallery Collection is a heritage hotel with plenty of personality and soul. Housed within beautifully preserved buildings and within walking distance of many of the town’s main sights, it offers a very different experience from the polished five-star hotels typically found in major cities.
But does all that heritage charm come with too many compromises? During our three-night stay, we experienced a Deluxe Room to find out whether 3 Nagas Luang Prabang really is one of the best hotels to stay in the heart of Luang Prabang.

Introduction
Luang Prabang had been on our travel list for some time, and when we finally decided to visit, we wanted to make the most of our stay. Since we were unlikely to return to Laos anytime soon, we felt it made more sense to stay at the hotel we genuinely wanted rather than choose a cheaper alternative.
3 Nagas Luang Prabang – MGallery Collection quickly stood out. Its heritage character looked exactly like what we wanted from a stay in Luang Prabang, while its location right in the heart of town was a major advantage. Being part of MGallery also gave us confidence, having enjoyed our previous stays with the brand elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
We booked a Deluxe Room through the Accor app on 27 March 2026 for our three-night stay from 3 to 6 April. The room-only rate came to US$340.95. Interestingly, the hotel was showing as fully booked, but the Accor app indicated that a room was available to us because of our Gold status. We therefore booked quickly when the availability appeared.
We arrived knowing that 3 Nagas was a small heritage hotel with limited facilities and without many of the modern comforts found at larger five-star hotels. That did not bother us. We were here for its location, character and the experience of staying in one of Luang Prabang’s distinctive heritage properties.
Hotel Location
Location is easily one of the biggest strengths of 3 Nagas Luang Prabang. The hotel sits along Sakkaline Road, just off Sisavangvong Road, placing you right in the historic heart of Luang Prabang and within walking distance of many of the town’s main attractions.
During our stay, we explored most of central Luang Prabang on foot. We walked from the hotel to Phousi Hill and the Night Market, with the latter taking around 15 minutes. We also walked back from Wat Xieng Thong, stopping at LuLaLao Coffee and Le Banneton Café along the way to escape the afternoon heat.
Despite being so central, the immediate surroundings of 3 Nagas were surprisingly peaceful at night. The hotel sits away from the busier concentration of bars and restaurants, and we experienced little noise during our stay.
Another unique advantage is the morning alms-giving ceremony, which passes directly in front of the hotel. We watched respectfully from a distance, and staying at 3 Nagas makes it exceptionally convenient for travellers who would like to observe this longstanding Luang Prabang tradition.
We barely needed a car during our stay. Apart from trips farther afield, including Kuang Si Waterfalls and the railway station, almost everywhere we wanted to visit in central Luang Prabang was accessible on foot. For first-time visitors in particular, we found the location difficult to beat.
Check-In Experience
Our first impression of 3 Nagas was memorable. We arrived after dark during Luang Prabang’s burning season, when the skies were noticeably hazy. Against this backdrop, the brightly illuminated heritage buildings looked almost surreal, and our immediate reaction when the driver told us we had arrived was simply: wow.
A staff member guided us to reception, where we were invited to relax on a sofa while the check-in formalities were handled. A welcome drink and homemade vanilla ice cream soon followed. We had not realised that homemade ice cream was something of a 3 Nagas speciality, but it was delicious enough that we returned for more during our stay.
What stood out most was the warmth of the service. Everything felt personal and unhurried, with the staff patiently explaining the hotel and our Accor benefits before personally escorting us to our room, where our luggage was already waiting.
Even being handed an actual metal room key rather than a keycard added to the charm. It was a warm and wonderfully fitting introduction to our stay at 3 Nagas.
Deluxe Room Review
Our Deluxe Room was located on the ground floor, just beside the reception area. While it looked broadly similar to the polished photos on Accor’s website, the room felt noticeably more dated in person. It was, however, surprisingly spacious and full of character.
Room Layout and Amenities
The room opened into a small living area with a two-seater sofa, coffee table and writing desk, while a comfortable king-sized bed occupied the other side. A wardrobe, luggage rack, minibar, safe, bathrobes, slippers and the usual coffee and tea facilities were also provided.
There were plenty of power sockets throughout the room, Wi-Fi worked well, and the wall-mounted air-conditioning was powerful enough to keep the room comfortable despite Luang Prabang’s April heat.
The old-fashioned furniture, tiled floors and wooden structure gave the room plenty of heritage character. This is very much the opposite of a sleek, modern hotel room, and we eventually found that to be part of its charm.
Outdoor Terrace
One of the highlights of our ground-floor room was its surprisingly large private terrace, which extended along almost the entire length of the room.
There was plenty of seating, including a dining table for two, several armchairs and a larger sofa, with two ceiling fans helping to keep the space comfortable. Privacy screens separated the terrace from the restaurant opposite, while housekeeping opened the window coverings during the day to let natural light into the room before closing everything again during turndown service.
Upper-floor Deluxe Rooms have balconies instead, although we did not experience these ourselves.
Bathroom
The bathroom was spacious and included a bathtub with an overhead shower, but this was where the age of the room was most apparent.
While everything we needed was provided, including MGallery-branded toiletries and dental amenities, some of the bathroom fittings were noticeably dated. The shower also occasionally produced a loud noise when in use.
Nothing significantly affected our stay, but we do think the bathroom would benefit from some updating.
Comfort and Noise
The king-sized bed was comfortable, and we experienced no meaningful noise from the road or reception despite our ground-floor location.
The bigger issue came from above. With the building’s wooden construction, footsteps from guests staying on the second floor caused the floorboards to creak noticeably. We sometimes heard this late at night and again early in the morning.
It was something we eventually got used to, but light sleepers should take note. If given the choice on a future stay, we would probably request a room on the upper floor.
Overall, we genuinely enjoyed our Deluxe Room. It is undeniably dated in places, but modernising everything could also remove much of the character that makes 3 Nagas special. Guests expecting the polished comforts of a modern five-star hotel may be disappointed; those willing to embrace the quirks of staying in a genuine heritage property are much more likely to appreciate it.
Facilities
As a small heritage hotel in the heart of Luang Prabang, 3 Nagas has relatively limited facilities of its own. There is no swimming pool or fitness centre on-site, although complimentary bicycles are available for guests who wish to explore the town on two wheels.
More importantly, guests at 3 Nagas can enjoy complimentary access to the swimming pool and fitness centre at the nearby Sofitel Luang Prabang. A free shuttle operates between the two hotels at scheduled times, although we did not use it during our stay. Sofitel is otherwise around a short drive away and can easily be reached using Loca, Laos’ equivalent of Grab.
Guests can also book experiences at Sofitel Luang Prabang, including spa treatments, dining and cooking classes, although these are chargeable at the usual rates.
Ultimately, we did not see the limited facilities as a significant weakness. 3 Nagas feels more like an intimate boutique hotel than a conventional resort. Those wanting extensive facilities may be better suited to Sofitel Luang Prabang, while travellers who prioritise location and heritage character are unlikely to find much missing.
Breakfast & Dining
Despite being a small heritage hotel, 3 Nagas offers surprisingly good dining between 3 Nagas Restaurant and Nagini Bar across the road. We ate at both during our three-night stay.
Breakfast at 3 Nagas Restaurant
Breakfast is served outdoors at 3 Nagas Restaurant, with four US$14 set menus available: Lao, International, Flavours of Laos & Beyond, and Tropical Wellness Platter. À la carte dishes are also available.
We tried breakfast once. I chose the International breakfast with an omelette, while my wife had the Khao Soi. Both were good without being particularly memorable, while my Americano was perfectly decent.
Overall, breakfast is enjoyable but not essential. With numerous cafés and restaurants within walking distance, travellers booking a room-only rate will have plenty of alternatives nearby.
Dinner at 3 Nagas Restaurant
We also had dinner here on our first night, ordering the US$42-per-person Lao Degustation menu before our Accor Plus Explorer dining discount. The multi-course meal included an eggplant dip, Mekong River fish soup, Phanaeng Kai chicken curry, stir-fried beef, Mhok Hed and mango flambé with coconut ice cream.
The eggplant dip and Phanaeng Kai were our favourites. Mhok Hed, however, had a particularly strong herbal flavour that wasn't quite to our taste.
As first-time visitors to Laos, we found dinner to be an enjoyable introduction to Lao cuisine in a more upscale setting. Of the Lao meals we tried in Luang Prabang, this was actually our favourite.
Nagini Bar & Homemade Ice Cream
We also spent an evening at Nagini Bar, ordering chicken skewers and Sai Oua Mhoo while redeeming our Accor welcome-drink vouchers for fresh coconuts. The peaceful atmosphere made it a lovely place to wind down after exploring Luang Prabang.
The hotel's homemade ice cream is also worth trying. Lamache House was once home to an ice-cream shop that eventually became an official supplier to the Royal Court, giving today's homemade ice cream an interesting connection to the building's history.
We enjoyed it enough at check-in that we returned for more later in our stay.
Service
Service was easily one of the highlights of our stay at 3 Nagas. With only 15 rooms, the hotel naturally feels more intimate than a large five-star property, but we felt the warmth of the service went beyond simply being a small hotel.
Every time we walked past reception, we were greeted with genuine smiles. The service felt less formal than at some larger luxury hotels, but considerably more personal. Staff also seemed good at reading their guests — they were always available and attentive without unnecessarily interrupting us.
One staff member in particular, who handled our check-in, made a lasting impression. He patiently introduced us to the hotel, encouraged us to use our Accor welcome-drink vouchers and repeatedly reminded us to quote our Accor Plus Explorer membership so that we would not miss our dining benefits. When we forgot to do so during one meal, he had already noticed and ensured the correct discount was applied.
Housekeeping was similarly consistent, with our room kept clean throughout the stay and the windows opened during the day before being closed again in the evening. Service at both 3 Nagas Restaurant and Nagini Bar was also attentive, friendly and always accompanied by a smile.
Our check-out was quick and efficient, although we were actually a little disappointed that the staff member who welcomed us was not working that morning. In just three nights, he had become one of the people we associated with our experience of 3 Nagas.
Overall, the service felt genuinely warm and personal, and contributed considerably to how much we enjoyed our stay at 3 Nagas.
Who This Hotel Is Best For
3 Nagas Luang Prabang is particularly well suited to travellers who value location, heritage character and personalised service over modern facilities and conventional luxury.
First-time visitors to Luang Prabang will arguably benefit the most. With the Night Market, temples, cafés, Phousi Hill and much of the historic centre within walking distance, staying here makes exploring Luang Prabang remarkably easy.
Couples should also enjoy 3 Nagas. We found the small heritage property romantic and intimate, particularly in the evenings when Sakkaline Road becomes quieter, and the illuminated buildings create a wonderfully atmospheric setting.
Heritage and cultural travellers are another obvious fit. This isn't a heritage hotel polished to resemble a modern luxury property. From the physical room keys to the old wooden construction and creaking floorboards, you are constantly reminded that you're staying in a genuinely old building.
It is also an especially attractive choice for Accor members, with membership benefits and dining discounts that can add considerable value.
3 Nagas is less suitable for light sleepers, who may be disturbed by creaking floorboards in ground-floor rooms, and travellers looking for extensive resort facilities or conventional five-star luxury. Budget travellers will also find considerably cheaper accommodation elsewhere in Luang Prabang.
Value for Money
We paid US$340.95 for three nights in a Deluxe Room, working out to approximately US$114 per night. At that price, we thought 3 Nagas offered excellent value and would happily stay again.
There are certainly cheaper hotels in Luang Prabang, but part of what you are paying for here is the location. Being able to step outside and explore much of the historic centre on foot added considerable value to our stay, alongside the hotel's MGallery branding, heritage character and warm service.
We would still be comfortable paying around US$150 per night, although the value proposition becomes less compelling as rates climb significantly beyond that given the dated rooms and limited on-site facilities. Accor Plus Explorer members can extract even more value through benefits such as dining discounts.

Final Verdict
We loved our three nights at 3 Nagas Luang Prabang. There was something almost surreal about returning each evening to its beautifully illuminated heritage buildings, surrounded by the cafés, shops and temples of Luang Prabang's historic centre.
The hotel is not perfect. The rooms are showing their age, particularly the bathrooms, while the old wooden construction means noise from creaking floorboards can be noticeable. However, we came into the stay knowing that this was a genuine heritage property rather than a modern luxury hotel, and these shortcomings ultimately did little to detract from our experience.
What 3 Nagas does particularly well is combine an excellent location with warm service, good dining and plenty of character. At the rate we paid, we also found it to offer very good value for an MGallery hotel in such a central location.
For travellers who want convenience and the experience of staying right in the heart of historic Luang Prabang, 3 Nagas would easily be one of our top choices.
Would we stay again? Absolutely. Although on our next visit, we would probably try an Executive Suite — or stay at Sofitel Luang Prabang simply to experience something different.
