Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn

As part of our journey from Melbourne to Adelaide, we planned two overnight pit stops before arriving in Adelaide. We figured that the first pit stop should be at Apollo Bay. It was a comfortable 2.5-hour drive from Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, and we should have plenty of time to explore the area.

We searched the various hotel platforms and decided on the Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn. It had great reviews, was by the beach, and was in the perfect place for us to explore Apollo Bay. Ultimately, we decided on a two-night stay at this lovely accommodation!

TL:DR

  • Located in the heart of Apollo Bay

  • Fuss-free check-in and check-out

  • Nice apartments

Check-in and check-out process:

By the time we arrived at Apollo Bay, it was already evening. The sun had set, and we reached the hotel around 6.15 pm. The usual check-in hours are between 2 pm and 6 pm, and the reception had already closed by the time we arrived, but thankfully, Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn has a self-check-in process that was already made known to us at the point of booking. This means we need not rush or speed our way to the hotel. We understand how curvy the road to Apollo Bay is, and the most important thing for travellers is to reach their destination safely.

When we arrived, we followed the check-in instructions and were on our way to our Garden Apartment. Everything was completed smoothly, and it was perfect.

Similarly, when we checked out, everything was done smoothly and efficiently. We were leaving early that morning, around 7.15 am, and the reception was not yet open. Of course, this is a common situation at Apollo Bay, and the hotel made it easy for travellers. All we had to do was drop our room keys into the letterbox, and we were free to leave. It was that easy! Funnily enough, we did not meet a single staff member of Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn during our stay, but needless to say, they had arranged everything to perfection.

Room:

The Garden Apartment is on the ground floor, and you can park your car right outside the apartment. This is great for those who fancy living in such a property in Australia, and is a great way to experience such living. For those who are used to living in high-rise apartments, this is a great experience to enjoy.

The apartment has a spacious living area and a dining cum kitchen area on the other side. It is designed like an apartment; many Aussies should be familiar with such a layout. Those who enjoy cooking during vacations should love this apartment as it has all the kitchen essentials. The dining table sits four while the living room has more seating options. Coffee and tea are provided via Lipton teabags and freeze-dried coffee sachets. Those needing a bit extra can head to the reception area, as local wines are advertised in the room and available at the reception lounge. Those are also affordable from A$7.50, although most wines are sold from A$20 onwards.

There are two bedrooms and one common bathroom. The first bedroom has two single beds, and both beds come with bed warmers. This was fantastic as we travelled in July, and it was really cold at that time. I am also not used to cold weather, having gotten used to the Singapore tropical climate all my life.

The other bedroom has a double bed, and although I initially took that bedroom, it did not have any warmers for some reason and only had an extra-thick blanket. Hence, I took up my friend’s offer and slept in the other room instead. The Wi-Fi was adequate, and I managed to stream a live football match one evening and catch a Manchester United match while far away in Apollo Bay.

The bathroom was pristine, and we loved how clean it was. It came with plenty of towels, a hairdryer, and all the essential toiletries. Natural Earth provides toiletries, which supposedly have manuka honey infused into them. We used these toiletries over two nights and had no complaints! The apartment’s hand soap is provided by Thankyou, an Australian brand founded in 2008. It is also a social enterprise that does much good in multiple countries. That was the first time I tried the brand, and I loved it immediately. When we flew home after the trip, I made sure to stock up on some body wash at Woolworths before heading to the airport.

Location:

Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn, in our opinion, is ideally situated. It is just opposite Apollo Bay beach, and you can walk across the road to explore the beach. There are also plenty of cafes and restaurants a short walk away, and we had some of the best food in Australia during our time in Apollo Bay. It is also a great home base to stay in, as we managed to head to Cape Otway Lightstation during the day, before returning to Apollo Bay in the evening.

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our stay at Apollo Bay Waterfront Motor Inn. The location was ideal, and the vicinity had all the essentials we needed. Food, groceries, and a petrol station were nearby. It is also a short drive away from some of the best seafood we have enjoyed in Australia. The apartment was great, and we only missed out on the ocean view apartments, the most popular option at this hotel. We definitely recommend this accommodation if you wish to stay over at Apollo Bay for a couple of days!
