Touted as one of the best restaurants in Phnom Penh, Malis does not disappoint. Specialised in Khmer cuisine, one simply needs to come to this restaurant to experience what local food taste like!
Malis offers a wide range of breakfast options for customers, and this can be seen in their lovely menu.
Surely, one needs to go for their signature Pork and Prawn Noodle Soup (Kuy Teav Malis). Honestly, words cannot do this dish justice, but we will try. The broth tastes so rich, and the prawns taste so fresh! The pork is juicy, with the rice noodles having the spring to sum up a delicious meal. Please order this dish!

Having said that, please note that there are also other local options, which are also delicious!
For those who may wish to have a western breakfast, Malis does it too, and boy, do they do it well! Choose your style of eggs to be done, be it poached, scrambled, fried, soft boiled, hard boiled (you get the picture), they will do it. It is also good to know that each egg option comes with other sides, be it sausages, hash browns, bread, or tomatoes.
For those undecided due to the many options available, you can also order their set options, which generally comes with a juice, coffee/tea, a main dish, and a light dessert.
Oh, did we forget to mention that they serve a variety of drinks as well? From different types of coffee and tea, there are also juices, shakes, smoothies, and frappes. Enjoy!

For lunch and dinner options, you cannot really look further than Malis for some authentic Khmer cuisine. Their take on the legendary Fish Amok is superb, with three individually plated bowls served together. Marinated in a lemongrass curry paste, huge chunks of fish fillets are in each bowl. Tasty! If you happen to be an expert in eating fish heads, you should probably try their fish head amok instead. It’s an Asian thing…
If you are looking for some comfort food, perhaps while it is raining cats and dogs in downtown Phnom Penh, we recommend their Bamboo Shoots and Smoked Fish soup. At first look, the soup looks quite plain and probably filled with some vegetables and pieces of fish. However, after taking the first sip, you realise that quite a lot of effort went into preparing this soup. It tastes rich and a little sweet at the same time, testament to the chef’s skills. Because each soup is meant for one person, it is quite fast before it is all gone. Lesson learnt: order one portion for each person (unless the group consists of small-eaters, of which we recommend one portion for two persons).
For desserts, there are only four options, although that does not mean Malis chose to neglect this important aspect of a meal. Rather, we believe they decided to focus on serving the best desserts they could think of. Try their Kampot Pepper Brulee, which is their take on the famous creme brulee. Alternatively, since you are in Asia, you should take a challenge and go for their Durian Delight! A word of caution though: you either love it or hate it! Beware of the smell!
